Creative Ways to Display Wedding Photos
Survey question: Have you ever walked into a newlywed nest of marital bliss and wondered if the happy couple hasn’t gone just a little overboard with the wedding photo displays? We’re talking silver frames across the mantel, gilded blow-ups in the stair hall, bookcases brimming with artful candids…
While that might sound like a leading question, our answer happens to be a resounding, Heck, no! If you’re going to spend a year or so planning a bang-up party, and pay someone to document it, why throw all of those brag-worthy pix into a box? What we were getting at with the question is that having a little fun with the photo displays might make them a little less formal and in-your-face, so to speak. You got creative with the wedding planning, after all, so think about applying your inner artiste to the aftermath.
With Studio Blue you have unlimited rights to reprint your photos whenever you want, so you can toss old displays or crafty disasters, as needed, and simply make more prints.
A few ideas:
Shadow Boxes
How cool are those old-timey shadow-box collections of esoteric artifacts you see in decorating magazines these days? You know what we’re talking about: old medicine bottles, mounted insects, rodent skulls. Screams Wedding!, no? But seriously, shadow boxes are easy to come by (Check out Pottery Barn and Target) and provide endless possibilities for arrangements of your wedding artifacts. Buy pearl-head stick pins at a sewing store and pin up favorite wedding photos alongside your save-the-date, shower or wedding invitation; dried corsages or boutonnieres; ceremony program; monogrammed matchbooks or other favors; place cards; or honeymoon souvenirs. Displays can be changed out or rearranged whenever you want, and have an artfully eclectic look that’ll look cool over the couch.
Casual Displays
Again, when you can reprint your photos so easily, there’s no need to always be so formal about displaying them. We’re big fans of tucking photos into the corners of mirrors, which has an “it just grew there” kind of spontaneity about it. Pin a vertical line of photos to a length of wide grosgrain ribbon and hang it on a door or in an alcove. Run some picture wire or fishing line along a wall and affix photos with small binder clips or clothespins. If they curl up a bit over time, so much the better for your laid-back look.
Digital Frames
Okay, this one’s not so original, but it’s an option that couples tend to overlook when it comes to their wedding photos. Think about it: you have thousands of pictures and you love them all, right? A digital frame allows you to keep them on rotating display, and you can add your friends’ and family members’ own pictures of your big day as they roll in. Genius!
This is just a start. Use your imagination to come up with more original ways to showcase your favorite shots that you’re bound to end up furious with your friends for imitating. Just remember what Mom always said: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And you can always rip off your friends’ table decorating ideas.
